Idea for a middle school project:

Students will explore how food can be used to understand a country's history and culture.

Activities:
Students research a recipe from a foreign culture (ideally with a country or culture they will be able to visit or interact with). They will analyze the ingredients of the recipe and explain how the ingredients tell a story about the country's history and/or culture. They will upload the recipe to the iTooth ning site along with their reflections on the history and culture of the country. They will prepare the recipe for a presentation. The presentation can be an in class presentation, a student generated movie, or a podcast. The presentation will also be uploaded to the iTooth Ning. Each student will reply to at least five other iTooth posts.
